Our data project was to analyze the number of searches of Pepsi over certain periods of time. In order to obtain the data, we used Google Trends, a site run by Google that records every google search. Immediately when we searched Pepsi, we noticed that there was a peak in the amount of searches for Pepsi in between April 2 - April 8, 2017. After doing some research, we found that this corresponded with a controversial ad campaign run by Pepsi. The ad starred Kendall Jenner and caused extreme upset throughout many communities and teh official ad was eventually banned from YouTube. The ad trivialized police brutality, political protests, and the violence that occurs during these protests. Google trends helped us realize the extreme upset that was caused because of this ad.
